As stated by the White House on Tuesday, the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will be hosted by US President Joe Biden on January 13th, 2023. The White House released a statement saying that President Biden was looking forward to hosting Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio at the White House on Friday, January 13 in order to further strengthen links between our governments, economies, and people.

According to the statement, the two leaders will also discuss security matters involving North Korea, China, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in addition to strategies to combat climate change. As per the White House, Biden will continue to support Japan’s G7 chairmanship and status as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
At a meeting with Biden last summer in Japan, Kishida issued a warning that a new conflict could result from China’s desire to retake the island of Taiwan. The Japanese leader remarked that Ukraine today “could be East Asia tomorrow.”
As it warned China poses the “biggest strategic danger ever” to its security, Japan’s government last month approved a massive revision of its defense strategy, including a considerable increase in funding.

Japan pledged to increase security expenditure to two percent of GDP by 2027, reorganize its military command, and buy new missiles that can target distant enemy launch sites in its biggest defense shake-up in decades.
