“Virat Kohli would want to score big”: Virender Sehwag for upcoming test against England

Virat Kohli

The former India skipper and a leading batsman of modern day cricket, Virat Kohli has lately been out of form in his career. Soon after the latest season IPL ended, the cricketing world had started judging the maestro as he repeatedly failed to perform with his bat,

Virat Kohli had a rough ILP season – his batting average in the tournament stood at 22.73 – the lowest since 2010. He also recorded three golden ducks to his name, a rare sight for a player of such calibre.

Kohli has not scored a ton for more than two years now and the recent series against England is going to be crucial for the star batter. The last century scored that came off his bat was in November 2019, which was more than two years ago now.

Kohli’s sloppy form has continued that has led to many former cricketers including Ravi Shastri to advise him on taking a break and freshen up his mind. However, emerging from the blues, former India opener Virender Sehwag has backed Kohli by stating that England’s series will record change in form. Sehwag has shown confidence on Virat Kohli’s calibre and highlighted that he will find his lost mojo in the fifth test against England.

Giving his views on the same, Sehway said in a pre-match show, “Do you remember when was the last time, Kohli scored a century? Even I don’t remember. He would definitely want that he scores big in this Edgbaston Test which is the series decider.”

The former cricketer further added, “I think his bad days are over. Ab lagta hai behtar din ayenge (I think now his better days will come) and they have already started. He has scored fifty in both the innings.” (Kohli scored a fifty in the 2nd innings and he scored 33 runs in the first innings.”

Virat Kohlis recent performance in the four day warm up match seems to be of some respite as the stunner scored 33 runs in the first innings and 67 in the second. The upcoming fifth test is a continuation of 2021 series played at England.

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the Indian camp, the series had been called off. India leads by 2-1 and the fifth test is going to be a decider – if India wins or draws, it will be their first test series victory in England since 2007. The decider is going to be played from 1st of July.
