Vinai Kuma Saxena takes oath as the new Delhi Lieutenant Governor

Vinai Kumar Saxena

Vinai Kumar Saxena, former Khadi and Rural Industries Council (KVIC) Prime Minister, was sworn in as the capital’s 22nd deputy governor on Thursday, following his predecessor Anil Baijar, who resigned for more than a week for personal reasons. Saxena, 64, is the first person from a non-bureaucratic and non-military background to be appointed to the LG of Delhi. He was sworn in as the new LG in a simple ceremony by Chief Justice of Delhi Vipin Sanghi at Raj Niwas.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet ministers attended the ceremony. Also present were MLAs from BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Parvesh Sahib Singh, Delhi Assembly Opposition Leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the BJP and the AAP. The event was also attended by Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and senior officials from the Delhi government.

Saxena worked in the private sector for 3 years and then for 6 years at the Khadi and Rural Industries Council (KVIC) of the Central Government.

Baijar, who has led the Delhi government for at least five years and four months, has repeatedly clashed with the AAP government, including handing out food rations, installing CCTV cameras and appointing prosecutors. specials.

Saxena’s appointment comes as the city’s elected government and downtown are locked in a dispute over delayed municipal elections. Saxena will directly oversee matters related to land, services, police and law and order that fall within the purview of LG, not the City’s elected representatives. The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2021, implemented last year, places LG above the elected government.

Saxena must also consider filling thousands of vacancies in various government departments, most of which have been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He also has to consider the new GST 2022-23 policy that may soon be brought before him for consideration by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
