US President Joe Biden’s top economic advisor, Brian Deese, resigns

US President

US President Joe Biden announced Thursday that Brian Deese, the chief economic policy advisor in the White House who helped draught significant spending packages and chart a course out of the recent shutdown, is leaving his position.

Deese had been essential to the US revival, according to Biden, who recalled the “high unemployment, an economy in crisis, with main roadways shuttered across the country” when he assumed office in January 2021.

In a statement, Biden stated, “For the past two years, I have counted on Brian Deese.” He continued, “He has handled the transition of our historic economic recovery to steady and stable development and helped drive my economic agenda into reality.”

During the time that Biden’s Democratic party maintained a slim majority in both chambers of Congress, Deese played a critical behind-the-scenes role in the passage of some of his most notable legislative accomplishments.

A large infrastructure spending bill, the CHIPs and Science Act for supporting semiconductor manufacturing and other cutting-edge industries, the American Rescue Plan, which assisted in keeping the economy afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Inflation Reduction Act, which aims to boost the production of electric vehicles and other green economy sectors, are a few examples.

Deese’s decision to resign was anticipated given that Biden’s first term was halfway over and that there was now a Democratic majority in the Senate and a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. No replacement has yet been chosen.
