The Census 2021 will be the first ever digital census; ₹3,768 crores allocated.

The Census 2021 will be the very first digital census of India in its history. Under the 6th pillar of the Budget 2021 “Minimum Government and Maximum Governance”, the finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman announced ₹3,768 crores for the legitimate conduct of the first digital census of India. Mentioning about the sources of the fund, she highlighted that the central ministry has allocated a huge amount in order to put more efforts and dedication to come up with a perfect census record for this particular session of 2021.

The first ever census of independent India began on 9th February, 1951 and enumeration continued till 28th February, 1951. At that point, the country’s population was counted as 36,10,88,090.

Right from that particular year, India initiated to conduct it’s census every 10 years and so far, it has been recorded for the 15th time, of which the last time was done in 2011. All these censuses are conducted under the 1948 Census of India Act.

These censuses help build India a statistical and official data of its population, thus verifying all the details, be it minor or major. The census officers tend to record information from the demographics of our population, by carrying out surveys at various intervals over the country. Some of the important notions recorded in the census of our nation are:

1. Geographic: place enumerated and/or place of usual residence

2.Familial: relation to head of household or family

3. Demographic: sex, age, marital status, children ever born, birthplace.

4. Economic: type of activity, occupation, industry, employer-employee status and several others.
