Sonia Gandhi to announce next CM of Rajasthan within the next 24-48 hours

Sonia Gandhi

Sonia Gandhi, the party’s acting president, would decide on the chief minister of Rajasthan in a day or two, according to Congress politician KC Venugopal on Thursday. Following Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s declaration that he will not run for Congress president, Venugopal met with Sonia Gandhi in the nation’s capital.

In the midst of the political spectacle that has been playing out since Gehlot announced that he will be running for president of the Congress in the October 17 election, Gehlot made his declaration after meeting with Sonia Gandhi earlier in the day on Thursday.

Gehlot told reporters that he apologized to Gandhi for the events that occurred on Sunday when MLAs who supported him disobeyed the central observers and obstructed the attempt to attend a conference of party legislators after meeting with the party president.

Instead, they held a separate meeting to advocate for Gehlot’s retention or to ensure that Sachin Pilot, his archrival, won’t take his position. Pilot, a former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, will meet Sonia Gandhi later on Thursday.

Three-time state chief minister Gehlot voiced his grief at the state’s turn of events and identified himself as a disciplined party soldier. When asked if he would stay on as chief minister, Gehlot responded that Gandhi will make the decision.

In the meantime, Shashi Tharoor met with senior Congressman Digvijaya Singh, who is expected to submit his nomination for the position of Congress president on Friday. Shashi Tharoor said they both agreed that theirs is “not a war between rivals but a friendly campaign” among allies.

Following the collection of election paperwork on Thursday, Singh met the Thiruvananthapuram-based party MP. The final day of the nomination procedure is Friday, and Tharoor has already announced that he will submit his nomination for the position of Congress president on that day.  On October 17, voters will be asked to cast their ballots, and on October 19, the results will be made public.
