Sheikh Hasina says “You and I have same rights” to Bangladeshi Hindu community

Sheikh Hasina

On the occasion of Janmashtami, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached out to the country’s Hindu community and urged people of other faiths to stop thinking of themselves as minorities. She said that everyone will have equal rights in the country with a Muslim majority, regardless of their religion.

Hasina stated the community has the same rights as she has in the nation during her Thursday interaction with Hindu leaders. She also noted that there are many more mandaps in Dhaka during the Durga Puja celebrations than there are in West Bengal.

Hasina reportedly stated, “We want people of all faiths to live with equal rights,” as quoted in the Dhaka Tribune newspaper. You are a citizen of this country and are entitled to the same rights that I am.

The prime minister said, “You would always think that you are the citizens of this country and you will enjoy equal rights.

According to a PTI report, Hasina joined an event virtually from her official residence in Gonobhaban at Dhakeswari Mandir in Dhaka and JM Sen Hall in Chattogram.

“We want to view you in that light as well. Please refrain from undermining yourself. You are citizens of this country because you were born here, she added.

Hasina also discussed how every negative event that occurs in the nation is reported in a way that gives the impression that the Hindu population in Bangladesh has no rights.

“That incident has been painted in a way that denies the Hindus any rights in this situation. And the government’s responses to the incidents don’t receive the right attention,” she was cited as saying by Prothom Aalo, another tabloid.

According to Hasina, neither her administration nor the Awami League support discrediting adherents of any faith. “We can communicate it clearly. Regarding that, our administration is quite circumspect. I can guarantee that” she continued.
