Ranveer Singh starer Cirkus earns only ₹29.25 crore in first week of release

Cirkus, the most recent film to star Ranveer Singh, finished its opening week with just 29.25 crore nett. The Rohit Shetty movie made an opening day gross of 6.50 crore on its Christmas holiday release. It made $6.25 million on Saturday and $8 million on Sunday, but starting on Monday, its take drastically decreased.

As weekday attendance continued to decline, the ensemble comedy, which also features Varun Sharma, Pooja Hegde, and Jacqueline Fernandez, brought in 1.75 crore net on Thursday. If this continues throughout the second weekend, Cirkus will struggle to earn even 40 crore rupees.

The Hollywood science fiction film Avatar: The Way Of Water, which debuted in India on December 16 and has had another strong week, is still a contender for the Hindi movie. If the James Cameron movie maintains these types of figures, it will surpass all other Hollywood movies in India in terms of revenue.

Box Office India, a trade website, claims that Cirkus’ losses can only be made up for by the estimated $135 crore in satellite, digital, and music rights. Both critics and viewers gave the movie negative reviews.

In addition to being based on The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare, Cirkus was claimed to have drawn inspiration from Gulzar’s 1982 film Angoor, which featured Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma. Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Jadhav, Mukesh Tiwari, Vrajesh Hirjee, Ashwini Kalsekar, Murali Sharma, Tiku Talsania, and Sulabha Arya were among the many Rohit Shetty regulars that appeared in Cirkus as the ensemble cast. Varun and Ranveer both play dual parts in the movie. Ranveer’s wife, actor Deepika Padukone, also made a guest appearance in the song Current Laga.

The box office failures of Ranveer’s most recent two movies, 83 (2021) and Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022), join Cirkus. The actor will soon be seen with Alia Bhatt in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

On April 28, 2023, the love story, which also stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, will hit theatres. It will compete with Ponniyan Selvan 2, the sequel to Mani Ratnam’s multi-starrer Ponniyan Selvan, which concludes its saga.
