Prince Harry disliked by 66% of Britons: public opinion

Prince Harry

According to a recent survey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are disliked and despised by nearly two thirds of Britons.

According to a study conducted on Tuesday by the international opinion and data firm YouGov, 43% of the 2,627 British individuals questioned said they had no sympathy for Prince Harry and Markle, with another 22% saying they had “not much sympathy.”

Meanwhile, a total of 22% of respondents said they had “plenty” of pity for the royal couple or at least “good bit” of it. Up to 13% of those polled provided neutral responses.

The survey follows closely on the heels of Markle’s solo podcast Archetypes, her interview with The Cut, and the announcement by the couple of a trip to the UK and Germany in the first week of September, according to a Newsweek article.

In terms of popularity among British citizens as a whole, Queen Elizabeth II continues to be at the top of the list, followed by Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and Princess Anne, the Queen’s daughter.

The couple’s popularity hit an all-time low in May before their trip to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which included Markle’s first return and public appearance in the nation since her royal retirement, according to the Newsweek story.

In the May study, 65% of British respondents stated they had a negative opinion of Markle, compared to 23% who had a good opinion. As many as 11% of respondents indicated that they “didn’t know,” resulting in a net positive score of -42, her lowest ever rating.

However, there has been a more favourable reaction to Markle and Prince Harry in the US. According to a February YouGov poll done in America, they were voted fifth and sixth, respectively, on the list of the British royals who were most favourably perceived.

The Queen comes in second place among Americans’ favorite royals, behind the late Princess Diana. Kate and Prince William came in third and fourth place, respectively.

This most recent survey comes after Markle discussed her relationship with the Royal Family in a recent interview with New York, noting that “forgiveness is incredibly essential” and that she has “a lot to say” until she doesn’t.
