Prakash Jha calls most Bollywood films “bakswas”, attacks big-budget filmmakers

The third season of the popular online series Aashram was released this year, and filmmaker Prakash Jha commented on the subpar quality of recent big-budget releases. He emphasised the need of taking it seriously and claimed that the current crop of movies is “bakwas (crap).”

Films by Prakash Jha that deal with social and political issues include Satyagraha, Gangaajal, Apaharan, Raajneeti, and Aarakshan. Three successful seasons of his web series Aashram, starring Bobby Deol, have been produced. Recently, the director was promoting his latest movie, Matto Ki Saikil, which hits theatres on September 16.

Additionally, he made a comment on how most current movies are essentially remakes of popular English, Korean, Tamil, or Telugu films. They ought to create rooted narratives, he remarked.

According to him, hindi-speaking individuals are conversing, but what are they producing? They are merely producing remakes. Stop making movies if you don’t have [an original] tale to convey. They must exert themselves and think creatively.

Speaking exclusively, Prakash Jha attacked the “big-budget” filmmakers with timid stories extracted from other movie industries. He feels Bollywood movies are nothing to be proud of these days.

People are drowsy,” he said before adding, “We aren’t investing in content and storytelling. We don’t spend much time writing. We don’t value those with the correct narratives. We admire the glam stars who arrive for the shoot in 8 to 10 vans and with 20 to 25 staff members.”

Prakash Jha will now be seen in the titular role in Matto Ki Saikil. It is directed by M Gani. He had last appeared in Saand Ki Aankh, which received great reviews from critics as well as the Indian crowd.
