Navratri 2022: How is the festival celebrated in Gujarat?

Navratri

Gujarat is where India’s largest event is held. India celebrates Navratri, a ten-day celebration, with much fanfare and splendor. The festival of Navratri, which means “nine nights” in Sanskrit, honors the goddess Shakti’s nine manifestations.

This Hindu holiday is observed in various ways across the states of India. East India worships goddess Durga and her four children — goddess Lakshmi, goddess Saraswati, lord Ganesha, and lord Kartik — whereas north India observes fasts, worships goddess Shakti, and partakes in traditional music and dance. During the ten-day festival, there is a lot of worshipping, ritualizing, and having fun with loved ones including family and friends.

One of the most important Gujarati festivals is Navratri. Gujaratis participate in the festivities with great joy, doing everything from fasting to decking out in the greatest colors. Gujarati Navratri is centered around the worship of the goddess Shakti.

Navratri begins this year on September 26 and lasts until October 5. In addition, there are nine colors associated with the nine days of Navratri; for each day, devotees dress in one of those colors.

During Navratri, Gujaratis begin their days by worshipping Goddess Shakti and requesting her blessings for their family. Aarti is performed in an earthen vessel called a garbi. Goddess Shakti is kept comfortable and joyful by regular aartis.

Gujarat traditional Navratri-specific dance, or garba, is one of the festival’s key attractions. People do a dance while dressed in traditional garba clothing and using dandiyas (sticks). Additionally, they perform a number of mythical tales through dance.

Mega-celebrations are being organized when a sizable crowd of people assemble to celebrate Navratri. People gather and feast on their favorite meals after the garba. Since the celebrations were dimmer the previous two years due to the spread of COVID-19, Navratri is anticipated more this year.
