On September 10, the state science and technology ministers’ conclave in Ahmedabad will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Science and Technology Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who was in charge of a high-level review conference here, stated that the conclave intends to boost the national science, technology, and innovation (STI) ecosystem through increased collaboration between the federal government and the states.

According to the minister, the Centre will help states create their STI policies and would collaborate with them to address their unique STI needs, difficulties, and problem regions as well as to develop solutions.

The two-day Science Conclave is anticipated to draw participation from the science and technology ministers of all 28 states, administrators of eight UTs, and CEOs of over 100 startups and businesses, according to Singh in an official statement.

The two-day Science and Technology Conclave, according to Singh, will take on a new dimension as various action-oriented choices are made and all states and UTs are required to develop their own STI policies that follow the national STI policy.

According to the Union’s minister for science and technology, in the true spirit of cooperative federalism, the Centre would help states create their own state STI strategies.

According to Singh, states must take the initiative to align their policies with the larger objective of strengthening the mechanism for coordination and collaboration between the federal government and the states in order to strengthen the STI ecosystem in the states by encouraging R&D, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

He asserted that states must be allowed to use S&T interventions to investigate answers to their regional issues, and he pledged that the Center will provide all assistance in doing so by connecting them to knowledge institutions and specialists.

The minister emphasized that some of the states and UTs need to connect their institutions with academic and R&D centers within the federal government because they have inadequate S&T foundations and institutional capacities.
