Manoj Sinha, the LG of J&K, assess advancements of the Amarnath Yatra in Raj Bhavan

Over the due course of time, the Amarnath Yatra is about to begin, with huge flocks of devotees and pujaris gathering for the pilgrimage. Pertaining to that, Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has gotten busy with reviewing the preparations for the mighty annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath, on Thirsday, at the Raj Bhavan.

The exquisite 43-day-long pilgrimage of Amarnath in the Southern Kashmiri Himalayas is all set to commence from 30th June, 2022; it has gathered huge grounds for popularity after two dreaded years amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting held at the Raj Bhavan was attended by several high profile officials such as the principal secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, administrative secretaries from various governmental departments, deputy commissioner, chief secretary, alongside others.   

The meeting was held in order to ensure proper commencement of the yatra; Sinha emphasized on the focus of meeting the requirements within the stipulated time frame. He further stressed upon the officials who are to ensure the optimal usage of technological assessments and make the yatra as safe as it can be for all the pilgrims.

Underlining the importance of the holy yatra for the Hindus, Sinha made a detailed discussion with all senior officials concerned with the matter; they are to ensure periodic inspection of security, convenience shops, logistics, transportation, sanitation, food, health, electricity etc. for the pilgrims and make this year’s yatra the most successful one in the history.

In order to track the movement of all yatris, the government is about to implement the Radio-Frequency Identification Technology (REID). This system will help keep a track of the yatris and ensure their safety and well being during the pilgrimage. In addition, the government has  also enhanced its telecommunication channels that will bring in a better connectivity for all yatris.

During the meeting, the deputy commissioners and administrative secretaries were thoroughly briefed by the Lieutenant Governor; the officials updated the LG with all up-to-date advancements towards the commencement of the yatra.

It was reiterated in the meeting that major proportions of the preparations have been completed or are about to be. Kashmir’s Divisional Commissioner apprised the meeting while informing that 7,500 registrations have already been booked for the pony service; this highlights the growing number of pilgrims this year.  

The Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag reiterated that all the preparations pertaining to his district shall be completed by 15th June, 2022. Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal gave a detailed brief about the status of his advancements. The meeting also witnessed discussions related to the establishment of the Tent City and its progress.
