Mallikarjun Kharge slams Amit Shah for Ram Temple controversy on Congress

Mallikarjun Kharge

As the northeastern states of Tripura and Meghalaya prepare for state elections, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge took aim at the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday. A day after the Union Minister stated in Tripura that the Ram Temple in Ayodhya would be completed on January 1, 2024, Kharge retaliated against Shah.

In Panipat, Haryana, during the grand old party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, Kharge declared, “You are a politician, not a pujari (priest). Your duty is to safeguard the country, providing the MSP (Minimum support Price) to farmers… and not make announcements on temples.”

In his speech on Thursday, Shah again took aim at the Congress, claiming that the opposition party had been impeding the construction of the Ram Temple in the courts ever since independence. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s time was during which the Supreme Court’s decision in the Ayodhya dispute in Uttar Pradesh was rendered.

Since the country’s independence, the Congress has been holding up the Ram Temple issue. After the Supreme Court issued its ruling and PM Modi assumed office, the temple’s construction started the same day after a “bhoomipujan” (groundbreaking),” the Union Home Minister remarked.

The BJP, on the other hand, “is actively toppling the governments of Congress and claim that they have confidence in democracy,” Kharge shot back on Friday. “They lie more than everyone else. They were elected on the promise of two crore jobs, yet nobody has been hired.

They did not pay the $15 lakh, “The Congress leader emphasized further in relation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election pledge to eradicate corruption. As part of what they refer to as “Operation Lotus,” the opposition has been accusing the BJP of attempting to overthrow the elected non-BJP administrations.

“The BJP did not defend the nation’s independence. We had to fight to acquire clearance to get to our program while the Prime Minister left with 100 cars and the Home Minister leaves with 50 cars “he continued.

With nine states holding elections this year, the BJP and the Congress are expected to argue more frequently. The outcomes will determine the tone of the national elections the following year.
