Maharashtra Political Crisis: 15 rebel Shiv Sena MLA’s offered Y+ security by centre

In a recent development on 26th June, amidst the ongoing political crisis of Maharashtra, the central government has issued a ‘Y+” level security of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel to 25 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs jumping ship to Eknath Shinde’s camp in Guwahati, Assam.

The ‘Y+’ category security has been processed by a team of legislators that include Prakas Surve, Mangesh Kuldhalkar, Ramesh Bornare, Latabai Sonawane, Sanjay Shirsat, among 10 other officials.

The specialised category security has been provided a day after Eknath Shinde’s letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray, DGP Rajnish Seth and Homes Minister Dilip Walse Patil had alleged that the security provided to the families of rebel camp leaders have been put at halt. However, the government of Maha Vikas Aghadi has rejected such allegations.

Soon after the rebel MLAs were vandalized by Shiv Sena workers across Maharashtra, Shinde wrote the letter out of wrath against Thackeray’s actions. On Saturday, Shinde had hosted a meeting of all MLA’s camping alongside him at a hotel in Guwahati, Assam for discussing and strategizing against the threats of Thackeray’s Shiv Sena party.

In a conversation with the media, Eknath Shinde had shown confidence on having a bare minimum of 38 Shiv Sena MLA’s out of a total count of 55. Shinde is currently backed by more than half of Shiv Sena’s MLA strength in the 288 member comprising the Maharashtra legislative assembly.

According to Shinde’s new series of media appearances, he is either planning to disband Shiv Sena into fractions and form another political or merge with another. Both the possibilities will result into a severe collapse of the current Thackeray government in Maharashtra.

The recent Y+ category security incorporates five t0 seven armed personnel who will be responsible for guarding the protectees in three different shifts. Based upon the threat luring over the VIP, the number of armed personnel will vary accordingly.
