Kashmir and its beauty in Different Seasons: Winter

Kashmir

If you want to enjoy the snowfall, Kashmir should be best visited between November and February. The highest temperature can reach  10 or 12 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature is -8 degrees Celsius.

The 40-day “chilaikalan” winter season, which runs from December 21 to January 31, is regarded as the season’s most important and most challenging part. The best season to visit Kashmir is winter if you want to go skiing or engage in other snow sports.

Gulmarg 

A well-known hill resort located in Jammu & Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The Gulmarg meadows are blanketed in a thick layer of snow during the winter, creating a beautiful scene. It’s an amazing experience to ride a gondola in the winter. Activities include skiing, sledding, snow biking, and photography.

Pahalgam 

Pahalgam is a well-known tourist spot in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Renowned for its vast pine, oak, and deodar forests, which are covered with snow throughout the winter months. In Pahalgam, wintertime will be an altogether different experience.  Activities include horseback riding, sledding, outdoor photography, and more.

Srinagar 

The entire city of Srinagar transforms into a true winter heaven during the winter season, especially in January. This  Paradise enhances the total experience with its nearly frozen Dal Lake, stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains, and even sporadic snowfall.

Kashmir

The temperature ranges from -4 and 12 degrees Celsius. A particular cuisine called “Harisa” is consumed by the locals throughout the winter. To stay warm throughout the winter, you will also see folks wearing the traditional “pheran” clothing. When it’s not too cold outside, you can take a shikara ride during the day or go shopping or try the local cuisine, etc.

Sonamarg 

Sonamarg, which is 80 kilometres from Srinagar, is one of the top three tourist destinations in Kashmir valley. In the event of significant snowfall, the road to Sonmarg becomes totally impassable. However, if you insist on travelling there in the winter, you should try your luck in December and March because there’s a chance the road will be open then. Pony riding, sledding, photography, and enjoying the snow are some of the things to do.

You should go back to Kashmir in the winter if you have been there in the summer and want to see how it appears then. The winter season is the ideal time to visit Kashmir if you want to take advantage of the planned snow sports events in Gulmarg, such as skiing, snowboarding, snow skating, ice skating, snow jets of Gulmarg, snow biking, and snow festivals.
