Karan Johar respond to allegations claiming his 50th birthday bash as “Covid-19 hotspot.”

Karan Johar

Recently, on 25th May, 2022, Karan Johar, one of the biggest names in the Bollywood industry, had celebrated his 50th birthday with a sumptuous bash at the Yash Raj Film Studio, in Mumbai. As he is one of the most popular figures of the industry, the bash hosted a huge crowd with numerous celebrities from the India film and TV industry.

However, soon after the birthday party, media reports claimed it to be a “Covid-19 hotspot” with an alleged figure of 50 guests being positive for the virus. The reports remain unconfirmed until big celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur were diagnosed with the virus, right after they attended the bash.

Referring to his birthday party, Karan Johar, in a recent interview, gave his opinion on the media reports, which he termed as “super-spreader”. According to him, the Covid-19 infected numbers highlighted by the media is a sham, in reality, such figures are not true.

Speaking further on the issue, Karan reiterated that he has been targeted and hence feels victimised. As shared by him, he believes that his party is not the cause; several events followed that week, which could be the source as well.

Talking to the media, he said, “There were stories and media articles that said that it became a super-spreader. Now look, not to get technical about it but we don’t know who contracted it and when because there was a lot happening that week, even in the movie industry. There was another party, there were weddings, there were events, there were shoots, why blame me? Like everything, why does it come down to me?”

Getting agitated over the matter, he further said, “I don’t mean to sound like a victim but I do feel marginally victimised. I’m like I have nothing to do with this pandemic, I just want to put it out there. It’s not me. I have no connection with the beginning and the origin of this pandemic. I just want to put it out there. So why people wrote what they did, how many people contracted it, did it happen at my party, I’m not saying it, I don’t know.”

In terms of his work profile, Karan Johar has been busy preparing himself for the 7th season of his talk show, Koffee With Karan. Simultaneously, the filmmaker is also working on his upcoming film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, the first film he will direct after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
