Joe Biden visits Ukraine, assures $500 for weapons and ammo

On Monday, US President Joe Biden paid an unexpected visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. His visit occurred only days before the Russian invasion’s year anniversary; President Putin began what he called “special military operations” in Ukraine on February 24 of last year.

According to a statement, Joe Biden is in Kyiv to meet with his counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and reiterate his “unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

Javelins, howitzers, and artillery ammo will be included. Further restrictions against businesses attempting to support Russia would be announced later, Biden said in Kiev.

Biden wrote in a series of tweets: “As we get closer to that anniversary, I’m in Kyiv today to meet with President Zelenskyy and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

He took the chance to criticize Putin as well. “Putin believed Ukraine was frail and the West was divided when he began his assault almost a year ago. He believed he might outlive us all. But he was totally mistaken.”

“During the past year, the United States has forged an alliance of countries from the Atlantic to the Pacific to back Ukraine’s defense with unparalleled military, economic, and humanitarian support – and that commitment will persist.”

Biden was welcomed by Ukrainian Lawmaker Lesia Vasylenko in a tweet: “Yeah, verified @POTUSin #Kyiv. Greetings, Mr. President! Looking forward to the announcements after the experience with the air raid sirens. The White House announced on Sunday that Biden will go to Warsaw on Tuesday to meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

He emphasised that the US would support Ukraine for “as long as it takes.” Since Putin started sending Russian forces into Ukrainian land on February 24, 2022, starting the biggest ground war in Europe since World War II—a war that has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives for both his nation and Ukraine—the Biden administration has given about USD 30 billion in security assistance.
