Jake Gyllenhaal, who voices Searcher Clade in Strange Universe, claimed that the animated movie’s treatment of family as a “microcosm” of the entire world left him with a “fated connection” to it.
The focus on three generations and their connections, or lack thereof, fascinated the Academy Award-nominated actor the most about the movie. He says, “I was really moved when they offered me the Strange World story. The psychological dynamics in a family, the generational issues we all face, how challenging we sometimes find loving,”

He further added, “I also think the notion that family is a microcosm for how we treat the world and what is taught within that unit is ultimately what we bring to the world outside of us are all things that it lines up with. Really, there was a very unique, fated relationship to the story.”
Commenting more on it, Jake Gyllenhaal said, “”I think we grow up and we attempt for many years to identify ourselves to be our own selves, independent from our family, no matter how much we love them, or they love us,” the actor continued. There are things that our parents push us towards that they don’t even aware they are doing because they have certain desires for us. I was drawn into this story by the idea that there is a whole unconscious world operating beneath the conscious one we live in.”
“As behind all of its incredible layers, Strange World is actually a story about having to go somewhere unfamiliar or even frightening in order to learn how to listen to the people we care about most in the world.”
