High speed 4G internet connection is all set to resume again in the territory of Jammu and Kashmir as announced by the state government. This development is happening after a long and dreary wait of almost 510 days, which is 2 years. Earlier, 18 districts of the Union Territory only had access to 2G mobile internet services. The 4G internet services were only available in two districts; Udhampur in Jammu division and Ganderbal in Kashmir region.
The mobile telephony and internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir on 5th August, 2019 when Article 370 abrogated and the state bifurcated into an Union Territory. Upon granted permission for the resuming of the 4G mobile services, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha thanked the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah through a tweet which stated “I thank the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Home Minister Amit Shah Ji for acceding to our request and restoring the 4G internet services in the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The move will fulfill the aspirations of the people, particularly the youth.”
The former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah also rejoiced over the decision induced by the central ministry. He also praised and welcomed it by tweeting the same with “4G Mubarak! For the first time since August 2019, all of Jammu and Kashmir will have 4G mobile data. Better late than never.”
This decision came in as a surprise for many but it drew positive responses from almost all spheres in Jammu and Kashmir. The 4G services are soon to resume as government spokesperson Rohit Kansal, while talking to the media said that “4G mobile internet connection is being restored in the entire J&K.” According to reports, the connection tends to begin as soon as possible as it has now become the need of the hour. However, it will be impressive to see how soon the government puts a further update on this. This historic feat is the hail of better days for the people of J&K, thus initiating the pace in the everyday lives of the common people.
