Hardik Pandya states “Rishabh was important” before India’s series against Sri Lanka

The next series between India, led by Hardik Pandya and Sri Lanka will be the first since the terrible vehicle accident that injured wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. After his automobile crashed on the Delhi-Dehradun motorway, Pant was seriously hurt and is currently receiving treatment.

The 25-year-old was regarded as a crucial component of India’s ambitions for the impending 2023 World Cup as well as in the context of the T20I format. Pandya said that other wicketkeeper-batters may have a chance to build a name for themselves in the Indian national team in Pant’s absence.

“Many folks might have a chance. The type of player Rishabh is, there would have been a significant difference if he had been present. Now that he isn’t there, we’ll have to wait and see what the future has for us, he said.

Pant was travelling alone in his car to Uttarakhand to surprise his family when he fell asleep while on the Delhi-Dehradun route. Near Roorkee, in Mohammedpur Jat, his automobile ran into a divider. Before being transported to Max, Dehradun, which was around 30 minutes away, Pant was transferred to Roorkee’s Civil Hospital.

Three T20Is and the same number of ODIs will make up Sri Lanka’s limited overs tour of India. The third game will be played on Saturday in Rajkot, while the second T20I will be played on Thursday in Pune.

While Rohit Sharma, the team’s normal skipper, is back for the ensuing three-match ODI series, Pandya will serve as vice-captain. Since the conclusion of the 2021 T20 World Cup, India has had a number of different players guiding the squad in various formats.

Apart from Pandya, other players who have captained the squad in various formats during this time include Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah. Pandya stated that the team has predetermined goals and strategies regardless of who is in charge of the team.

Plans have been made. There are only 6 games left until the IPL, but we intend to play in a specific manner. So, we don’t have a lot of time to accomplish a lot of things, but moving forward, we’ll make new plans and determine which ones are effective. We’ll make sure everyone has plenty of opportunities. We will determine what has to be done at the appropriate moment. Role identification was a concept that was prevalent previously and is still present today. In any case, I think that everyone should have a clear understanding of their roles and what they may reasonably expect in my team,” he stated.

India’s performance in the two tournaments they participated in in 2022 was dismal. After failing to advance to the Asia Cup final, they were eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the semi-finals following a crushing 10-wicket loss to eventual champions England.

Hardik Pandya claimed there was nothing wrong with the model they used prior to the World Cup, despite the fact that it didn’t go as planned during the competition, and he is seeking to support those who play under him to give them the courage to express themselves.

“I believe we behaved properly prior to the World Cup. We used the same template and methodology. Yes, during the World Cup, things did not go as planned, and our strategy differed slightly from before. The guys have been advised to express themselves, and it is up to us to decide whether or not to support them “explained Pandya.
