The Bhavnagar city in Gujarat has witnessed a new controversy as a college principal had to resign on Monday soon after an uprising criticism over a conflict against the students who were urged to join Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

On June 24th, the principal, with an interaction with the students, urged them to join BJP after school. After the students had registered a complaint against her, the college management had asked the principal to stay away from desk, and later asked resign.

Dhiren Vaishnav, the Director of Bhavnagar’s Smt NC Gandhi BV Gandhi Mahila Arts Commerce College, which is also known as Bhavnagar’s Mahila College, stated that all educational institutions under the Bhavnagar Stree Kelavani Mandal Trust soley focus on developing and enhancing academic activities and in no way associate with the promotion of any political agenda or programme.

A per the students, the former principal in charge Rajanbala Gohil had asked the students to register themselves as ‘page pramukh’ (roll page in-charge at booth level) for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on 24th June.

Opposition parties such as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress were quick to react to the situation and create a political baffle against BJP.

The Chief of Bhavnagar city unit of the Congress, Prakash Vaghani said, “The BJP talks about being the world’s largest political party. It is now clear how it became this big. This is not the only institute. There are many other institutes that work under the BJP, and the party controls them.”

The Chief of AAP unit (Gujarat), Gopal Italia reiterated that the notice is sheer insult to women. Raising question on the principal’s intent, Italia said, “Is this an educational institute or a factory for producing BJP workers?”
