EU condemns Russian missile attack on Ukrainian cities and term it “barbaric”

EU

The Russian missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Monday were denounced as “barbaric” by the European Commission (EU), who also urged Belarus not to assist its ally in killing civilians. Josep Borrell, the head of the EU foreign policy, stated in a tweet that Russia’s actions “had no place in the 21st century,” and that the EU was on its way to providing Ukraine with military help.

Following President Vladimir Putin’s declaration that the explosion on Russia’s bridge leading to Crimea was a terrorist assault, Russia bombarded cities across Ukraine during rush hour in what appeared to be retaliatory strikes.

Innocent individuals who were travelling in the morning traffic to work and school were the target of these “barbaric and cowardly actions,” according to Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the executive branch of the European Union.

The political and military leadership of Russia would be held accountable for this and other war crimes, he warned, calling the strikes a violation of international humanitarian law. The EU advised Belarus to avoid taking part in Russia’s “brutal illegitimate endeavor,” which was against both international law and the United Nations Charter.

It specifically ordered Minsk to stop permitting the country’s soil to be used as a launch site for recent missile strikes and drone assaults against civilian targets in Ukraine. According to Stano, “any additional acts, and in particular the direct involvement of the Belarusian military in this war, against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the Belarusian people, will be faced with new and significant restrictive measures.”

In response to what he claimed was an obvious threat to Belarus from Kiev and its sponsors in the West, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Monday that he has ordered troops to deploy with Russian forces close to Ukraine. The future repercussions for the same will prove highly impactful and will change the face of the continuous war.
