Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of Tata Sons, dies in a car accident

Cyrus Mistry, a former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away on Sunday in a car accident in Palghar, Maharashtra. Mistry’s Mercedes crashed on a divider as he was driving from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Mistry was 54 years old.

The renowned Mumbai gynaecologist Dr Anahita Pandole, her husband Darius Pandole, and Jehangir Pandole, according to the police, were also in the car together with Mistry.

They had spent the morning at the Iranshah Atash Behram in Udvada. The driver is thought to have been Dr. Pandole. The incident on the Surya river bridge claimed the life of Jehangir Pandole as well. Darius and Dr. Pandole are reportedly safe and receiving medical attention at a hospital in Vapi.

Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when the tragedy happened at around 3.15 p.m. The Surya river bridge was the site of the disaster.  According to a police officer quoted by PTI, it appears to be an accident. In October 2016, Mistry lost his position as chairman of Tata Sons.

As soon as word of Mistry’s passing spread, tributes began to flood in, with political figures and businessmen expressing horror at the accident.

Mistry, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a potential businessman who has faith in India’s ability to prosper economically. “It’s terrible that Shri Cyrus Mistry passed away so suddenly. He was a bright businessman who had faith in India’s ability to prosper economically. The business and industrial worlds have suffered greatly since his demise. We send our sympathies to his family and friends. The prime minister posted on Twitter, “May his soul rest in peace.”

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, claimed “I was surprised to learn about Cyrus Mistry’s death, the former CEO of Tata Sons. Along with being a prosperous businessman, he was also regarded in the sector as a person of youth, brilliance, and vision. It’s a terrible loss. My sincere thanks.”

Smriti Irani, a minister for the Union, referred to Mistry as a kind man on a mission. “Cyrus was the very definition of kindness, in my opinion. It shocks me to learn of his passing. My sympathies to his family and close friends.”

Vir Sanghvi, a well-known journalist, remarked, “Rest in Peace. Because life is so delicate and erratic, you never know what will happen tomorrow. My sympathies go out to his family. These are really awful news.”
