India reports 12,213 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours; highest surge since February

On Thursday, India has reported the highest daily surge in Covid-19 cases since February, as the active cases’ figure has gone up to 12,213 cases. The overall cases of Covid-19 cases in India stand at 43,257,730.

A day prior to Thursday, only 8,822 cases had been reported. However, the spike has taken a toll as 38.4% of cases have surged. As per the reports of the Health Ministry of India, the active caseload of India stands at 58,215 cases, which accounts for about 0.13% of the total Covid-19 cases in the country.

The recent data of the daily spike highlights two key India states that have witnessed the highest cases in the country – the two states being Kerala and Maharashtra. On Thursday, Kerala has reported around 3,488 cases, while Mumbai has recorded a figure of 4,024 cases.

Following Maharashtra and Kerala stands Delhi as the rising figures of Covid-19 cases in the national capital seems worrying. Delhi’s Covi-19 tally had hiked by 1,000 fresh cases for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, taking the total figure to 1,375 in the last 24 hours.

The rising numbers of the Covid-19 tally has led to a rising concern of a fourth wave; however, several experts have set forth assurances as the number of hospitalisation and deaths are quite low. This is a result of the growing number of fully vaccinated Indians. However, despite all the assurances, citizens are requested to remain cautious.

In the last 24 hours, India has reported a total of 11 deaths, taking the overall death figure up to 5,24,803 since the pandemic hit. What is positive in this scenario is the relieving recovery rate – it stands at 98.65% on Thursday. The weekly positivity rate stands at 2.38%. On Wednesday, a total of 5,19,419 tests have been conducted.

The vaccination coverage of India has surged up to a total of 195.67 crore doses – 3.54 crores for the first dose, and 2.02 crores of second dose for the age of 12-14. For the age group of 15-18 year old age group, India has completed over 5.99 crores of first dose, and 4.73 crores for the second dose.

Meanwhile, India’s tally for the booster shot remains at 3.64 crores which have been majorly given to senior citizens (60+ years), frontline workers, and health care staffs. With these numbers assured, India’s vaccination status is quite positive, making it one of the leading nations for the fight against Covid-19 virus.
