British education system; is it a sham?

British Education System

British Prime Minister Liz Truss stated her goal to build a “modern dazzling Britain” with opportunity and prosperity for all on her first day in the position. She claimed to “turn Britain into an aspiration nation with high-paying jobs,” and to do so, she will take action every day. It’s commonplace for new political figures to make lofty claims about changing society. Just looking at the last three British prime ministers, Johnson wanted to “level up”, May wanted to put an end to the “burning injustices” of inequality, and Cameron envisioned a “Big Society.” Under her leadership, the British education system has been adversely affected.

However, all these promises seem vague on today’s date as the British education system seems to be collapsing and losing it values, especially for the foreign students coming to UK for higher education. The change of government and Lizz Truss’ taking over as the British Prime Minister has resulted in a significant change in UK’s political structure and ideologies.

The official statistics of the country highlight that around 6.5 million foreign students are currently pursuing their higher education in UK as of 2020-21 data. These students mainly range from Asian, European and African countries and come from a background of developing countries. Studying in UK costs a hefty amount, despite of government allowances and scholarship programs.

Foreign students apply in British universities seeking a good education, decent socio-economic culture and appealing job placements post graduation. Currently, the political scenario in UK has changed and it has come to notice that the administrative framework, under the leadership of Lizz Truss has become more biased towards students of UK and discriminatory towards foreign students.

According to inside reports of Gandhi News, several foreign students have been facing the ongoing wrath of vulnerable political glitches and the unfavorable structure of the British educative framework. More and more students are harassed and thoroughly discriminated against in their universities, and it has come to light that UK origin students are shown more preference in terms of education, assessments, job placements and many more.

Foreign students are finding it difficult to get themselves placed and the ones who already did, are facing issues of Visas, or their work permits are being terminated before time. They are being asked to vacate the country or asked for hefty amounts to renew their permits and continue living in UK. Many foreign students have reported paying around $20,000 pounds to their universities as additional fees for extension of their work permit, which usually is granted for three years.

In circumstances as such, foreign students are facing ardent difficulties in continuing with their courses, and the ones considering applying are facing huge dilemmas. Now the question of the hour remains, is this justified on part of UK’s educational sector to lure foreign students into their country with fake promises and aspirations only to later curb them and crush into pieces? Is this what foreign students spend lakhs of rupees for by going to complex admission processes and investing all of their time, resources and money?

What is the Lizz Truss government doing on this? Is the government being ignorant or are they blatantly misusing the prestige of their history to extract resources of foreign students to only offer them a future filled with vulnerability and darkness? Gandhi News seriously condemns the education measures of the current government and demands justice for all foreign students.
