The drunken Air India passenger who allegedly peed on a fellow passenger on a journey from New York to Delhi has reportedly been detained in Bengaluru. Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri tweeted about the event on Friday hours before he was taken into custody.

He responded to a tweet from a journalist who questioned how the media would have covered the aforementioned Air India passenger if “his name was a Khan” rather than “a Mishra” and he had been Muslim.

The Kashmir Files, one of the highest-grossing movies of last year, was directed by Vivek, who responded to the comment by tweeting, “The law applies to everyone equally. Arfa or Rajdeep, either. According to you, it’s the media (vulture media) that is biased. By now, I’m certain you would have referred to him as a victim if it had been a Khan. Please ponder and consider.”

The initial tweet stated: “So Shekhar Mishra, a drunk businessman who was caught peeing on a fellow passenger in a plane, what if he had been named Khan? Guess who would be expressing their outrage in cartwheels on television and social media? No matter who you are, a Khan or a Mishra, the law must apply to everyone equally. Agree?”

Sanjay Mishra, who resides in Mumbai, is accused of peeing on an elderly passenger on the journey from New York to Delhi on November 26. The elderly woman apparently complained about the Air India workers in her complaint and also expressed displeasure toward the man, calling them “very unprofessional.”

According to the most recent report in the case, PTI, Bengaluru police helped Delhi police apprehend the accused, Shankar Mishra, from the city’s Sanjay Nagar neighborhood, where he was residing at his sister’s residence. He was fired by his California-based company, Wells Fargo, the day before his arrest.

Social media users are outraged over the Air India issue. A similar incidence on another recent Air India flight was reported. The Delhi Police received a notice from the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Friday regarding alleged passenger misconduct and harassment. According to sources, the panel has also requested a report by January 10 on the steps taken against the airline for its incompetence in the situation.
