Bharat Jodo Yatra nearing end, Congress plans next BIG campaign

Rahul Gandhi

The Bharat Jodo Yatra is currently on its final leg in Jammu and Kashmir, but the Congress is continuing to campaign against the BJP despite nine states having assembly elections this year.

The grand old party launched a “chargesheet” against the ruling party on Saturday along with information about its upcoming “Hath se Hath Jodo Yatra” mass contact programme.

“The Modi government’s so-called governance structure favors his business associates while keeping the general public in the dark. Indians have seen Jumlas, broken promises, rising communal strife, record unemployment, and zero accountability in the past nine years.” The Congress posted a lengthy list of allegations against the BJP on Twitter.

The Congress used the terms “Kuch ka sath (only supporting a few)”, “Kuch ka vikas (development of select few)” and “Sabke Sath Vishwasghaat” (deception with everyone”) to elaborate its set of allegations, twisting the rival party’s slogan “Sabka saath, sabka vikaas” (Development while taking everyone along in the way).

The party’s accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi were that he “flew to Delhi to take oath aboard a businessman’s private jet whose wealth soared 50 times since 2014.”

It went on to say that the top 10% of the nation’s wealthiest individuals own “64%” of India’s wealth and that loans totaling 72,000 crores for “Modi’s buddies” were forgiven, but not a single loan for farmers.

The party intensified its criticism of the China-India border tensions, alleging that Beijing “took 20,000 sq km of territory while PM claimed “koi ghusa nahi (nobody trespassed).” It also blamed the party for unemployment, farmers’ problems, women’s safety concerns, and growing poverty.

It also poked fun at the government’s position in global rankings such as the Democracy Index, Press Freedom Index, and Hunger Index.

Since beginning to lead the Bharat Jodo Yatra in September, Rahul Gandhi has been criticizing the opposition party, claiming that the grand old party is fighting against “the animosity created by BJP and RSS over the previous few years.” On January 30, the party’s mass contact campaign is scheduled to come to a conclusion in Srinagar.
