Beijing undergoes first vaccine mandate amidst growing Omicron terror

Beijing

Beijing, the Chinese capital city is all set to introduce a mandate for vaccination to certain venues from 11th July’22. It is going to be the first in the country amidst China’s newly found outbreak of the Covid-19 as millions clustered in a karaoke lounge which remains the hub of fresh cases. The same has happened with Shanghai as is now spreading in the holiday destination of Xian.

The health commissioner of Beijing announced on Wednesday that from coming Monday, any citizen visiting a public space such as museums, libraries, entertainment hubs, sports and fitness clubs, art galleries or any recreational space which is crowded “must be vaccinated”.

He also announced that the city will be exempted from public services such as restaurants and public transportation. The deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, Li Ang, stated on Wednesday that according to the city’s new regulation also states that elderly people are to produce proof of vaccination in order to enter any community space.

The newly passed mandate of compulsory vaccination has proved to be a major change in policy introduced by the government, until the state authorities as well as Chinese controlled media had not shown extraordinary support for the imposing of the same with vaccination count decreasing in the state.

The recent surge in Covid numbers in Beijing is a result of rapid multiplication of Omnicron outbreaks, as a new sub-variant BA5’s three cases has been discovered in Beijing last week, along with China’s northwest Shaanxi province.

The recent hike in Covid cases in Beijing as well as new outbreaks in other provinces have led China to introduce zero-covid policy in the country. The Chinese mainland has recently reported 112 locally transmitted corona virus cases by Wednesday, out of which 81 were found in Anhui, the easternmost province of China.
