Ashwini Vaishnaw, the union minister for communications and IT, said on Thursday that the government hopes to roll out 5G services by October 12 and that a quick rollout of the technology is planned.

“We intend to quickly roll out 5G services, and telecom providers are making installations in that direction. By October 12, we should hopefully be introducing 5G services, which we will then scale up in cities and towns”, the minister stated.

“In the next two to three years, we anticipate that 5G will be available nationwide. We’ll make sure the price stays reasonable. Both urban and rural locations are being prioritized by the sector”, Vaishnaw continued.

The telecom service providers have already been urged by Vaishnaw to be ready for the launch of 5G following the issue of letters allocating spectrum. For the first time, the Department of Telecom released the letters of spectrum assignment on the same day that the winning radio wave bidders submitted the initial payments, according to PTI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that 5G services would soon be available in India during his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort’s ramparts. He added, “We won’t have to wait long as we move closer to the era of 5G. Every village will receive optical fibre from us. I am fully aware that villages would be part of the Digital India goal.”

In exchange for the spectrum they recently won in an auction, service providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Adani Data Networks, and Vodafone Idea paid the DoT about 17,876 crore.
