All you need to know about Flipkart’s record sale during the flagship season of ‘Big Billion Days

The WalMart owned e-commerce platform Flipkart is one of India’s leading online shopping spaces. Last year, it had a blast with the advent of it’s iconic ‘Big Billion Days’ flagship sale event as the platform delivered more than a figure of 10 million orders in the first five days itself. The most sought after product categories from the sale were the smartphones, fashion, large appliances, electronics, furniture and general merchandise.

After a massive hit of the sale, Economic Times reported that Flipkart had ranked about $2.4 billion during the first four day of the flagship programme. The season sale recorded a big high with both online marketplaces on track to meet expectations for the entire seven-day period. Flipkart officials revealed that 2x the usual number of customers visited the mobile category with 3.2x increase in sales of premium smartphones, majorly driven by Apple, Google and Samsung. In the fashion category, Flipkart sold over 16 million products from across 40,000 brands.

Reports revealed by market tracker RedSeer Consulting, show that commerce platforms ( largely Amazon and Flipkart) recorded sales of around $3.1 billion in the first four and a half days of the festive period, exceeding the $2.7 billion in gross sales during the entire period last year. “Sharper sales growth versus last year, especially in the first 3 days, means that the industry is on track to reach or even surpass our forecasts of $4 billion,” RedSeer said.

Flipakrt further added that the number of transacting sellers has grown 1.5x during the flagship sale days. On the customer record, the company touched a high of 666 million visits 52% of which were from Tier III cities and beyond.

“Flipkart’s aim this festive season has been to bring resilience back into the community,” Nandita Sinha, vice president — customer growth and engagement at Flipkart, said in a statement.
