Air India passenger, who ‘peed’ on fellow passenger, arrested

According to Delhi Police sources, Shankar Mishra, an Air India passenger who is accused of peeing on a fellow passenger while intoxicated on a journey from New York to Delhi, has been detained in Bengaluru.

The officials also stated that Mishra had been transported from Bengaluru to Delhi. Since leaving his home in Bengaluru, he had been hiding. Mishra had turned off his cell phone as well after learning of the police investigation on him.

The Delhi Police on January 5 had issued a look out notice to the relevant authorities after registering a case of sexual harassment and obscenity against Mishra following the allegation that he had urinated on his fellow passenger.

According to a PTI report, Shankar Mishra was apprehended by Delhi police with the help of Bengaluru police in the city’s Sanjay Nagar neighborhood. According to reports, the accused was living at his sister’s house.

In a directive issued on Friday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) urged the airlines to lodge a report whenever a rowdy customer is seen on board. The aviation regulator threatened them with harsh measures if they were discovered to be breaking the rules of flight safety.

He was fired by Wells Fargo, a large global financial services corporation with its California headquarters, the day before his arrest. “Wells Fargo expects its employees to conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner, thus we find these allegations to be quite upsetting. This person’s employment with Wells Fargo has been terminated, the bank had said in a statement.

“Head of operations are hereby instructed to sensitize pilots, flight attendants, and directors of in-flight services of their respective airlines on the topic of management of unruly customer using appropriate measures under intimation to DGCA… The DGCA stated in its advise that any non-compliance with applicable regulations “would be dealt with seriously and invite enforcement action.”
