Given the string of crucial series between India and Sri Lanka that lay ahead, the BCCI has removed Jasprit Bumrah from the three-match ODI roster on the eve of India’s series opener against island nation.
With the NCA’s instructions, Bumrah has been dropped from the team for the series that begins tomorrow. This will be his first cricket assignment since October.

BCCI stated, “Jasprit Bumrah, a pace bowler for Team India, will not play in the next three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah will need additional time to develop his bowling endurance. He was supposed to join the team in Guwahati before the ODI series. Precautions have been taken in making this choice. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has not yet picked Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement.”
It is thought that Bumrah is better off being given a bit more time before making a full recovery because the India pacer has a propensity to falter after playing nonstop cricket.
However, Bumrah is anticipated to play in the World Test Championship final, the Indian Premier League, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at home in a four-Test series beginning next week, as well as the World Cup, which will be held in India later this year.
Initially, it was thought that Bumrah’s recovery from the back injury he experienced had left the BCCI pleased with his development. Bumrah’s injury flared up again after he was forced to return for the T20Is against Australia before the World Cup, thus the BCCI chose to keep India’s top bowler away until he had fully recovered. Bumrah did not go to Guwahati, the site of the opening ODI, with the Indian team.

Despite not being included in India’s inaugural team, Bumrah continued to upload videos of his training and upcoming return on social media while healing. The board ultimately chose to add him in a successful start to the new year.
