On Saturday, US President Joe Biden sent “heartfelt” condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the passing of his mother. Heeraben Modi, the mother of the PM, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and passed away in the early hours of Friday.
“Jill and I offer Prime Minister @narendramodi our sincere sympathies on the passing of his mother, Heeraben Modi. In this trying moment, our thoughts and prayers are with the Prime Minister and his family, Biden tweeted.

In addition to Biden, a number of other world leaders also expressed their condolences on the death of PM Modi’s mother in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
As the Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif noted in a tweet, “There is no greater pain than losing one’s mother,” he also offered “my sympathies to Prime Minister @narendramodi on the demise of his mother.”
“I was saddened to learn of the death of Hiraben Modi, the mother of Indian Prime Minister @narendramodi. During this time of sadness, my thoughts and prayers are with Prime Minister Modi and his family, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih tweeted.
“PM Modi @narendramodi, I would like to send my heartfelt condolences for the demise of your dear mother. May she rest in peace with her soul.” wrote the Japanese PM Fumio Kishida in a message that included prayers.
On Friday, PM Modi officiated at his mother’s funeral in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. There with him were Gujarat cabinet ministers, former CM Vijay Rupani, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

When PM Modi tweeted about the death of his mother, “God’s feet are resting on a magnificent century. I’ve always sensed in Maa the trinity of an ascetic’s journey, the image of a selfless Karmayogi, and a life dedicated to moral principles.” He recalled their June meeting and stated, “When I met her on her 100th birthday, she emphasized one thing that will always be remembered: work with intellect, live life with purity.”
