Croatian defender Domagoi Vida withdrew at half-time in a friendly against Turkey after testing positive for coronavirus, the Croatian Football Federation said on Thursday.
Vida, 31, who plays for Turkish club Besiktas, was cut off from the rest of the squad after being substituted in Wednesday’s match.
Vida tested negative three days before the Turkey match, but tested positive on Wednesday after Croatia had another round of tests ahead of Saturday’s Nations League match against Sweden.
“The medical services of the Croatian national team received preliminary information at the end of the two matches that there was a possible positive result,” the federation said in a statement.
The federation said Vader would self-isolate for 10 days in Istanbul while the rest of the team prepared for the match against Sweden.
Croatian media have published recent photos of Vida hugging his teammates, including midfielder Luka Modric. Turkish media also had photos of Turkish players in close contact with Vader during Wednesday’s match. Croatia sent most of their reserves and drew 3-3 in the match.
